The Wellness Project
This book is a radically different way of looking at our health.
The results of Mankovitz’s extensive research are quite startling, and look nothing like what much of our conventional wisdom and the health community would have us believe.
The Wellness Project uses nature as a guide, and the research discussed delves into the fields of anthropology, zoology, ethnobotany, and paleopathology, with more than 350 references that health professionals are unlikely to have read.
The term Project refers to a set of plans describing how to operate and maintain a complex chemical factory – the human body. The overall plan includes a diet plan to put the good stuff in our body, a detoxification program to get a lifetime of bad stuff out of our body, and suggested changes in lifestyle to enhance our health.

The Original Diet
The nutritional approach used in this book is not based on dispensing drugs or supplements to be taken for a lifetime. It is not a weight loss program; it is not an exercise program; it is neither symptom nor diagnosis based.
This book teaches the reader to use food to restore the human body as closely as possible to the condition intended by Nature. It uses very simple principles, including common sense and humility, to produce a program designed to yield positive results.
If individuals eat foods that their unique ancestral history has not adapted for, their body’s defense system will react to those foods as toxins, and mount a defense against them.
If your defense system is busy detoxifying your food three or more times per day, it does not leave much left over to protect you from serious illnesses such as cancer and heart disease.

Nature’s Detox Plan
Something is very wrong with the health of our present population, and the medical community has not been able to reverse what seems to be a relentless trend downward with respect to the prevention or cure of dozens of chronic illnesses.
Virtually all illnesses result from some failure of the body’s defenses (which I will refer to as the defense system). This failure can arise as an inability to cope with a pathogen or toxin that entered the body, as in the case of an infectious disease or poisoning from ingesting a toxic substance.
